It looks Florida will be rolling out the red carpet first for Galaxy's Edge second and most anticipated attraction. Disney announced today that the land's major E-ticket attraction will open at Hollywood Studios on December 5th, 2019. Why that specific date you ask? Well that day also happens to be Walt Disney's birthday and the attraction's opening will certainly mark a major milestone in Disney Parks history.
When it opens, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will blur the lines between fantasy and reality and will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will be recruited to join Rey and General Organa at a secret base. Along the way, they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base, and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren.
As many of you know, Disneyland guests had the lucky chance to visit a galaxy far, far away first. But it looks like those in the Sunshine State will get to experience Disney's most ambitious ride before everyone else. If all goes according to plan, Disney has stated that Rise of the Resistance will open at Disneyland on January 17th, 2020. This certainly means that the holidays will be even busier this year at Disney World. Some have theorized that dedicated Star Wars fans are waiting until this second attraction to open to experience the entire land in it's full glory.
As with the opening of Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run, this second attraction will not offer Fastpass+ reservations in the first few months of operation. Disney has yet to confirm when Fastpass+ reservations will become available for either of the Star Wars attractions. But judging by how smoothly the opening at Disneyland was, I think we can expect FP+ reservations to become available at Galaxy's Edge somewhere in mid-2020, however this is pure speculation. Until then, Hollywood Studios is expected to offer a newly updated policy on Fastpass+ availability at other attractions around the park.
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open at Disney's Hollywood Studios on August 29th. The park will offer Extra, Extra Magic Hours to those staying at at Disney World hotel starting on September 1st. Galaxy's Edge will also offer special Passholder Previews in the weeks leading up to the grand opening for select annual passholders.
