Disney has just announced that Japan's upcoming signature restaurant will be opening this summer. Takumi-Tei, which means house of the artisan, will give guests the opportunity to enjoy an upscale dining experience inspired by the natural beauty of Japan. It will be operated by Mitsukoshi USA, which also manages the pavilion's legendary department store and both Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining. Once open, Takumi-Tei will be Japan's third table service restaurant and 5th dining location. Japan also sports a quick service restaurant, Katsura Grill, and features Kabuki Cafe; a snack cart that sells delicious sno-cones. Takumi-Tei will be the pavilion's first signature restuarant. No other country in World Showcase features this many dining options and Japan will certainly become the premiere pavilion when it comes to dining.
The design celebrates the relationship between Japanese craftsmanship and the natural world, while the food is inspired by the wonderful collaboration between nature and takumi, the artisan. The upscale dinner menu will highlight wagyu beef in a sublime setting, and guests interested in the ultimate experience will be able to indulge in a multi-course tasting menu featuring traditional tea service. Signature cocktails and premium sake will be available along with a wine and craft beer menu.
Takumi-Tei does not currently have an official opening date, however Disney has stated it will open this summer, before the 2019 Food & Wine Festival kicks off. Reservations will become available soon on Disney World's website and by calling (407) WDW - DINE. Japan is one of my favorite pavilions in World Showcase, right up there with Morocco. I will certainly be trying out this restaurant when it opens and report back with a full review. Are you excited for this new signature restaurant coming to Epcot?
