New 'Awesome Planet' Film Coming to The Land Pavilion at Epcot

It's no secret that Epcot is about to undergo a massive overhaul. Some of it, undoubtedly, seems exciting even if it doesn't necessarily fit with the park's original vision. But along with big changes like the Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster in Future World and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure at the France Pavilion, smaller scale additions are coming that beautifully uphold the original idea of this unique park.

Disney today has announced a new film coming The Land Pavilion; Awesome Planet, an on-screen exploration of the realm we call home, showcases the spectacular beauty, diversity and dynamic story of our earth with all the grandeur guests have come to expect. With spectacular nature photography, immersive in-theater effects, and space sequences created by none other than Industrial Light & Magic (which provided the cinematic foundation for the Star Wars franchise), “Awesome Planet” will stir Epcot guests and deliver an environmental message that will resonate far beyond its final scenes. While not explicitly announced, it is assumed that this new film will setup shop in the theatre that was once home to Symbiosis and Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable. This may mean that guests will once again get to marvel at the beautiful carpet mural that is located in the pre-show area to the theatre.

At this time, we do not have an official opening date for the debut of Awesome Planet. The pavilion's previous film, Circle of Life, did close in February of 2018. Therefore, it is possible that this will debut soon given that Imagineers have had over a year to test screen the new film and add any additional enhancements to the theatre that are needed. Along with this unexpected announcement, other films currently playing within the park will soon get a makeover as well including Reflections of China and O, Canada!
