Mickey & Minnie's Surprise Celebration Premieres at Magic Kingdom

Updated: Aug 6, 2019

On January 18th, 2019, Magic Kingdom kicked off the new year by premiering the new Mickey & Minnie's Surprise Celebration in honor of the pair's 90th birthday. New character meet and greet opportunities have arrived around the park as well as new treats, souvenirs and an updated dance party at the park's hub.

First of all we have the new Celebration Center inside Town Square Theater. Guests can pick up their official party invitation with some details on how you can celebrate the big occasion and sign Mickey & Minnie's guestbook. Then, you can head on inside the theater to meet Mickey & Minnie together! Since the revamping of this building a couple of years ago, this is actually the first time you could meet the pair together inside the Magic Kingdom. Both of them are sporting some adorable new birthday outfits. I especially love Mickey's bowtie and Minnie's dresses stuffed with colorful pompoms. Mickey & Minnie appear all day inside Town Square Theater and Fastpass+ reservations are available. The Celebration Center where you can sign the guestbook and pick up your invitations is usually open from park opening time to 6pm.

Since Minnie has moved into Town Square to join Mickey, that means Daisy has a new friend over at Pete's Silly Sideshow. Pluto will now pose for pictures dressed up a new top hat along with Daisy as Madame Fortuna. Goofy & Donald's Meet and Greet inside the sideshow has remained the same. Fastpass+ reservations are not available here and all four characters appear throughout the day from park opening time but end at various times. Check your Times Guide when visiting for the most up to date details here.

Since Pluto has now officially moved into Storybook Circus, that means a whole slew of characters are now appearing in the heart of Town Square. Every day a new surprise set of Disney characters will come out and greet guests from park opening time into the early evening hours. On the first day of the new celebration, Judy Hops and Nick Wilde from Zootopia where out. Disney has stated that characters will rotate each day at random and we can expect to see some rare characters like Remy & Emile, Phineas & Ferb and even some character's from Robin Hood. On the first day of the event, Nick & Judy were roaming around Town Square and there were no physical lines to meet them. This is a wonderful change up back to the old days at Disney World when you never knew what characters would come out and they would interact with guests in a more spontaneous manner.

For all you foodies out there, there's a great lineup of new treats available around the park. Over at Cosmic Ray's there's the return of the Mickey Burger; a traditional angus burger topped with macaroni & cheese and bacon, all under a Mickey Mouse bun. You can also now purchase a Minnie kitchen sink souvenir ice cream bucket at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. At Gaston's Tavern you can sip on the Now and Forever Slush now until the end of February; a sparkling apple cider slush garnished with a white-chocolate dipped strawberry. Finally at the Crystal Palace, Skipper Canteen and at Tony's Town Square Restaurant you can indulge in the True Love Cheesecake from now until Valentine's Day.

But the hot ticket in town when it comes to souvenirs is the Mickey Celebration Sipper! These adorable souvenir cups flew off the shelves on the first day they were available. These guys can be found at various quick service locations such as Casey's Corner for $13.99.

Finally, we have the newly updated dance party on Main Street. The Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party taking place several times throughout the day at the park. As it did before, the street party starts in Town Square and makes its way down Main Street and stops at the hub in front of Cinderella Castle. New catchy songs have been added and all the characters have bright new colorful costumes. On the first day of the event, we of course got to see the Fab Five along with Daisy, Chip & Dale, Clarabella Cow, Horace Horsecollar and Max!
