It's not everyday that Epcot gets a new quick service restaurant. While pavilions such as Japan have recently received delicious new dining locations, other countries have been serving the same dishes at forgotten quick service locations for years. Mainly because all the Epcot festivals serve up delicious food on the go at the festival booths. Why slow down and get a meal when you can sample dozens of dishes while touring all the global destinations?
But today, Disney has revealed menu items for the upcoming Regal Eagle Smokehouse that will replace Liberty Inn at the American Adventure pavilion. The bad news is that we still have no opening date and while we have menu items, we don't have pricing. But while we not-so-patiently wait, let's take a look at the menu.
On the menu are a variety of sandwiches and platters as well as a plant-based option. Chow down on a sliced Texas beef brisket sandwich with house-made spicy mop sauce on garlic toast or the South Carolina smoked sausage sandwich with tangy mustard sauce and caramelized onions.
You can also feast on Kansas City smoked chicken, Memphis dry-rub pork ribs, North Carolina chopped smoked pork butt, all available by themselves or as part of a delicious hearty platter. For a lighter option, you can grab the Power Greens Salad with chilled pulled chicken, fresh citrus, and a citrus vinaigrette. And if you’re looking for an all-American burger, try the grilled burger topped with BBQ pork and a fried onion ring or take a bite out of the plant-based BBQ burger featuring a plant-based patty topped with BBQ jackfruit served on vegan garlic toast.
The menu will also feature several kid's options that include a burger, BBQ chicken salad, BBQ chicken leg or chicken salad, and even a BBQ rib platter, all served with their choice of two sides. And for dessert, Regal Eagle will serve up items like the Banana Pudding and S'mores Brownie.
Something really special about Regal Eagle, is that it will also have an outdoor bar and seating area for guests who want to enjoy alcoholic beverages from around the United States. It will be interesting to see if this will pull crowds away from food booths during festivals such as Food & Wine that are normally located on the opposite side of the pavilion. Things could potentially get rowdy if both remain open during such events.
The Regal Eagle has no official opening date at this time, but Disney has stated that the restaurant will open this winter. Technically that can mean anything from the start of Festival of the Holidays on November 29th all the way to the end of February. Since this will remain to be a quick service restaurant, reservations will not be offered. The previous establishment, Liberty Inn, was the only quick service location in World Showcase to offer Mobile Food Order. I believe we can expect this to remain the same when the new restaurant opens.
If this new food spot offers similar dining packages as it has done in the past for Food & Wine and the 4th of July concerts, Regal Eagle could proved to be one of the best quick service meal to have in World Showcase. We will update with opening date details and menu pricing when we learn more.
