The world of Pixar's Cars has moved into Sunset Blvd at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Before the announcement of Toy Story Land and Galaxy's Edge coming to Disney World's third park, some Disney fans speculate that a similar version of Radiator Springs would take over the previous Streets of America corner of the park. Even though we Floridians did not receive the stunning Cars treatment that California Adventure got, we now have our own Cars-based entertainment offerings at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
On Sunday, March 31st, 2019, Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy debuted at Sunset Showcase nearby Rock 'n Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror. The new 10-minute show teaches guests what it takes to be a winning racer like Lightning McQueen. Despite this being a somewhat short show in comparison to other entertainment offerings in this park, the new McQueen animatronic is one of the most impressive AAs seen in Walt Disney World. The new figure uses similar technology used in Radiator Springs in California, but with an up-close seat one can really appreciate the finer details and smooth movements of this character. Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy runs continuously throughout the day and Fastpass+ reservations are not offered here.
Outside the Sunset Showcase theatre, guests can also meet Cruz Ramirez and DJ for some fun photo-ops. Additionally, McQueen's Pit Crew arrive on the scene for “DJ’s Ready! Set! Party Time!” that invites guests to gather around DJ for Cars-inspired dances and games. While exact showtimes for this dance party may vary, this mini-show took place 10 times on the opening day of the attraction at 10am, 10:40am, 11:20am, 12pm, 12:40pm, 2:15pm, 3pm, 3:40pm, 4:20pm and 5pm.
