Disney Unveils 55 Character Gondolas on Upcoming Disney Skyliner

Disney Skyliner at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disney's latest transportation system, the Disney Skyliner, reached another important milestone yesterday. Over at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney unveiled 55 character gondolas while testing running high in the sky. Recently, we got an inside look of what the gondolas will look like inside. Each car will hold up to 10 guests on two wooden benches and the ride vehicles will even accommodate guests using wheelchairs. But today is all about the exterior beauty. Characters featured on the outside of each gondola include C-3PO and R2-D2, characters from Beauty and the Beast and even Madame Leota from the Haunted Mansion.

The Disney Skyliner is currently scheduled to have a fall opening, although an exact date has not been announced yet. It is worth noting that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is currently scheduled to open on August 29th. Wether or not this will be open in time for the grand opening, or a bit after, is unclear. Once complete, the Skyliner will transport guests between four resort hotels and two theme parks. The system will have a station in between Art of Animation and Pop Century as well as Caribbean Beach and the upcoming Riviera Resort. Guests will be transported from their hotel to either Disney's Hollywood Studios or the 'backdoor' entrance to Epcot at International Gateway.

Testing on the Hollywood Studios leg of the transportation system has been going on for several months now. Recently, testing began on the portion of the transportation system that will connect guests to Epcot near the France Pavilion.
