We are inching closer and closer to reaching the far ends of the galaxy when Galaxy's Edge opens at Disney's Hollywood Studios on August 29th, 2019. Today, Disney has announced that select Annual Passholders will have the opportunity to get a special preview of the land, before it opens to the general public. Since opening at Disneyland Park, Floridians and those living on the east coast, have been wondering if a similar reservation would be implemented here in Disney World as it was in California. So far, things already appear to be different.

We’re excited to share that Platinum, Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders will be among the first to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with special preview opportunities planned before the land’s opening on Aug. 29. Capacity is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. More information and registration details for previews will be shared at a later date.

Officially, this is all we know so far. In California, a similar announcement was made in order for guests to begin prepping mentally before details of their reservation system was released. Disneyland Park allowed guest to reserve a 4-hour time slot to visit the land for the first month of Galaxy's Edge being open. Guest staying at one of the three Disney resorts were automatically given a reservation window. A limited number of reservations were offered to avoid intense crowds and bottlenecking throughout the park. (Disneyland is much smaller than any of the parks in Florida.)

Once inside the land, guests could experience all of the land, with the exception of Rise of the Resistance, in that four hour window. You could go shopping, enjoy food and beverage items and of course ride Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run. Once your four hour window was up, you were escorted out of the land for the next group to come in. This reservation system proved to be very successful. Guests reported that maximum wait times to ride Millennium Falcon reached about an hour at most at times.

Wether or not Disney World will offer a similar reservation window in the first month of being open is unclear. So far, all we know is that these top tier Passholders will have the chance to attend a preview before it opens, something Disneyland did not offer. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel will have the chance to experience Extra, Extra Magic Hours at Hollywood Studios daily from September 1st to November 2nd. The park will open at 6am to allow resort guests to experience the land prior to the general public for a full 3 hours. Similar Extra, Extra Magic Hours have been announced for others parks as well to spread the crowds out even more.

Stay tuned in the future as we will report updates and changes to the opening day and month procedure for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios.
